Dwight A. Owens Recognized by Cambridge Who’s Who for Excellence in Mental Health Services
Atlanta, GA, August 17, 2007–Dwight A. Owens, M.D., chief psychiatrist for Peachstate Psychiatric Services, Inc. has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in all aspects of mental health services. Owens, a Cambridge Who’s Who lifetime member, has undergone rigorous training and education in order to better treat his patients.
As the chief psychiatrist of Peachstate Psychiatric Services, Inc., Owens is responsible for short- and long-term psychotherapy and psychiatric diagnostic assessments. An expert in mental health, he is able to administer medication management and crisis debriefing. He also conducts forensic evaluations, marriage therapy and evaluations of medical records, among other services.
Owens has an impressive background in psychiatry. Prior to joining Peachstate Psychiatric Services, Inc., he worked at the Lee Arendale State prison as a contract psychiatrist. He has been a staff and clinical director for the Fulton County Department of Community Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities, and Addictive Diseases. He served as the medical director of all the Fulton County mental health facilities from October 1999 to September 2005. He has been an adjunct assistant clinical professor at the Morehouse School of Medicine’s department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. He currently teaches Psychiatry at the Osler Institute.
Owens received his board certification in Adult and General Psychiatry in 1999 and his internship certificate in family medicine from the Mercer University School of Medicine. He holds an MD from the Health Science Center (HSC) at Syracuse and a bachelor’s degree from Morehouse College. Owens is a physician surveyor for the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. He has received accolades for his professional contributions, including being listed as one of the 100 Black Men of America in 2003. He was also awarded the Ernest Y. Williams Clinical Scholar of Distinction Award from the National Medical Association in 1999, the Eleventh Annual Chester M. Pierce, M.D. Sc.D. Award in 1998 and the Resident Research Award from Black Psychiatrist of America in 1997.
